Back Home

Sitting in our living room having a third whisky before retiring, my beloved pain in the arse (och she’s no that bad) went straight to her bed after a cuppa. I’ve had a great week getting away from the day job and getting away from the horrors of the World. I’ve learned so much about the harmony as well as the contradictions of our great nation. I wish I was ten years younger! I’m 64 in November. You’re only as old as you feel my late Dad would tell me and he’s right, turned out he was always damn right!

I find a cohesion that the people of Wales have, they have a bond that us Scots had from the creation of the Union and that has been deliberately destroyed. In Wales I see the Pride and the Courage of the People to fly the flag of their heart, they fly both the Welsh and the Union flag, us Scots have been listening to the historic play of the Clans for years, we’ve been listening to disharmony of even talking about politics due to the Bigotry that is now engrained into the Culture, much like Northern Ireland. I’ve witnessed so many Union flags scattered about the street, torn down, can’t be flown!

Maybe I’m going off tangent a wee bit, but it’s allowed, I’ve had a few whiskies and maybe I would not want to say what I’m trying to say. The people of Wales are solid, they’re not in danger. They have no fear to express how they feel. They have a strong and pounding heart for Wales for their mother tongue, but their heart still beats a loud bang for Britain!

I’m home in Scotland, the place of my birth, I love the feel of the place. I’ve been up north so often, initially more learning about the different malts than the people, but that changed. I remember walking into a pub in Skye with her that never stays indoors. They were all talking Celtic and I said to her “How can I order a pint?” You know, they spoke better English than me and we had an amazing couple of hours with they people. Still think back to that!

And to what kind of cohesion we as a Scottish people may have. I do not see it, I see us Scots fighting over religious grounds. I see the break up of the Union as Scotland being an Ulster Mark 2! I see our politicians as cowards. The Welsh work together, even the Nationalists understand the good for the people and nation!

I’m on my fourth, shocking, but I have so much to think and look at. Neil Oliver I have always admired. He is a thinker, a leader of people. He’s gained a platform with GB News to be able to express his thinking. I’ve far too often got a tear in both eyes after a monologue. Why? Because he’s talking from his heart. Our nation, and when I say that, I mean Scots, English, Welsh and Irish; we all need to think on where we come from and where we’re bloody going. We have a very strong and pounding heart beating together.

I have so much more to say about meeting my fellow Celts but I’m best not babbling. I’ll close with this question. If you have a beating heart, a strong beating heart for your nation, why can’t it be as equally strong for the Union Jack, not just because we are stronger together, but because us Brits have that one strong and pounding heartbeat! We live together, we die together.
