Monday 4 April 2022 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for an end to Russian “war crimes,” as the ongoing retreat of Russian forces around Kyiv reveals alleged atrocities. Zelensky visited Bucha, a town near the Ukrainian capital, where images showed civilian bodies found strewn across a street. Reporters observed a mass grave in the town, with the mayor saying there could be up to 300 victims buried on site. The besieged city of Mariupol is still a hotbed for fighting and airstrikes, the UK’s Ministry of Defence said, adding the southern port is “a key objective of the Russian invasion.”
