Mark Collett on the Demise of the BNP – “Another reason was the party got bogged down in a very silly legal challenge with the European Human Rights Commission, who was saying that we couldn’t have a Whites Only Policy anymore. It was Against the Law to Discriminate against people on the Basis of Race. And at the time, everyone on the advisory council had voted unanimously just to Change that Policy. But Nick Griffin went Against everyone’s advice, decided to Fight in Court. Well, that made us look Blatantly Racist, which again, wasn’t good for PR. And also, it cost the party Hundreds of Thousands of Pounds. And finally, there had been some Very Bad Decisions taken by the people who were apportioning money in the party. The party ended up in something like Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Pounds worth of Debt, which Dragged it Down. And all of these things led to a number of Splits, Fall Outs. And the people brought in to replace people like me when I left were basically not the kind of people you would want involved in a party. And those kind of people, when they were appointed cast Real Doubts on Nick Griffin’s ability as a Leader or as a man who could make Sound Judgments. For example, there was a guy he appointed as National Treasurer of a party that turns over Two Million Pounds. A national treasurer should be somebody who’s maybe an Accountant, maybe somebody who’s been in the Financial Services Industry, somebody who’s worked in a Bank, somebody who might be a Civil Servant. Well, in Nick Griffin’s infinite wisdom, he chose a man whose resumé was one of a balance, yeah, a Bouncer. He worked on the door in clubs and had been involved in a Large Criminal Case for Importing Drugs into the country. Now, that case itself Collapsed. But to me, you know, if I was running a party with a turnover of two million pounds, I would want the person looking after the funds to be someone that everyone could look up to, and Admire, and say, well, the Funds are in Safe Hands. You know, you wouldn’t just give it to the Local Bouncer who’d be known for, you know, Allegedly Selling Drugs in a small town. And all of these things led to the Collapse of the Party The real sad thing about the collapse of the BNP was it takes years and years. It takes decades to build a political party. It takes hours and hours to put it together, but all it takes is One Quick Swipe to knock it all down. And in the matter of 12 to 18 months of Bad Decisions, poor TV Performance, bad Financial Planning and Lots and Lots of Fall Outs, the Party was pretty much Wrecked!”
