Friday 8 April 2022 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said a Russian missile strike on a train station that killed at least 50 people in the eastern city of Kramatorsk was “another war crime of Russia, for which everyone involved will be held accountable.” Officials in towns near Kyiv, including Bucha and Makariv, have found hundreds of civilian bodies as they assess the destruction following the withdrawal of Russian forces from around the capital. Ukraine’s defense intelligence chief said Russian troops are regrouping across the border and plan to advance toward Kharkiv in what could be a major offensive against eastern Ukraine. European officials said the Russians are feeling “self-imposed pressure” to achieve some sort of victory by May 9, the day Russia celebrates victory over Germany in World War II.
