Sunday 15 May 2022 – Sweden has announced it should “work toward” an application for NATO membership. Finland also said on Sunday that it will seek to join the defense alliance. Russian forces are retreating from the north following Ukraine’s counteroffensive but are intensifying attacks in the east, Ukrainian officials say. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for Russia to be officially recognized as a “terrorist state,” after a meeting with US senators in Kyiv.
