November 2019. Was at my Auntie’s Cremation today, she’s the last of the Old Guard that I grew up with. My Father and his siblings passed away years ago, my Aunt was my Mother’s older sister and she’s the last of a large family of brothers and sisters, she’d have been One Hundred next year! I was talking to a cousin, we recognised each other but it was one of those embarrassing occasions where we’re both trying to remember each others name, and we were both messing about as toe-rags as kids! A lot of that of-course is to do with Age, but a lot of it is to do with we don’t see each other, it’s a case that in our Christian Culture you only see family at Weddings and Funerals nowadays, and we’ve accepted that and it’s probably too late to Change! It’s Sad in what’s happened to our Culture. I was saying to my son and daughter that I’m sure I’ve got plenty of cousins in the west of Scotland, many in England, but I don’t see them, I don’t know them, I’d walk by them in the same side of the street, and I’ve never deliberately ignored anyone in my life! Shocking what we’ve became. Family used to be the Epicentre of the Christian Life. Yes Politics and Employment have played their part in that we’ve often had to travel for work, but our Culture still holds to Christian Values, we’re a Christian Culture, and yet so many of us are Abandoning Christianity. I think we have to be reminded that by doing that, we’re Abandoning our Way of Life, our Culture.
